About Us
"If we want to help the world, we have to make a personal journey—we can’t simply theorize or speculate about our destination. So it is up to each of us individually to find the meaning of enlightened society and how it can be realized."
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
The vision of Shambhala is based on the wisdom and compassion of the meditation tradition. It proclaims that our lives can be workable, and even wonderful. Through the path of meditation we can touch our inherent sanity, and by sharing that with others, we can create an enlightened society. The Shambhala community is a support for those who aspire to follow this path.
The San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center offers a place where people can learn mindfulness awareness meditation in order to conduct the activities of their everyday life with wisdom, compassion, and a sense of humor. We offer study opportunities for beginner, intermediate and advanced students taught by senior meditation practitioners and guest teachers.
The Shambhala Meditation Group is part of a larger Buddhist Community in San Diego.

We are located in the back at the Art Produce Building at 3139 University on the southwest corner of University Avenue and Herman Street. Our community also includes our neighbors with whom we share space, the Art Produce Gallery and Caffé Carpe Diem.
The gallery is designed to be viewed from pedestrians on the sidewalk as they move about the neighborhood. The owner graciously makes her space available for us to exhibit works on Shambhala Arts Day and on other occasions for films or as additional sitting space. Not surprisingly, the caffé provides a backdrop for many sangha discussions.
