Volunteering
“Generosity is the virtue that produces peace."
from The Sutra of the Recollection of the Noble Three Jewels
The San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center is non-profit organization that is run and financed entirely by the generosity of its volunteers and members. Volunteering helps us to continue to maintain our space and staff the programs and events that benefit our sangha and the community as a whole.
Volunteering, though, is not completely about being of benefit to others. By volunteering, we also benefit personally. Many of the volunteering roles at our center provide training that allows one to extend one’s own practice, and staffing programs/events deepens our practice, especially meditation in action. Also, the value of many, if not all, of the skills that are developed in the course of volunteering extend well beyond our center and out into our daily lives.
Volunteering also has a social aspect: it is a great way to get to know one another. But for those who wish to volunteer but can’t easily make it to our location, we also have roles that can be done remotely.
If you would like to explore more about the volunteer roles at the San Diego Center or register to be a volunteer, please visit our ancillary Practice and Education Website.
